13 Days of Modkid Halloween // Day 8

Friday, October 24, 2014

When we first announced the "13 Days of Modkid Halloween", I showed you my youngest daughter's clown costume created with the Modkid Bailey. Today, I'm bringing you another member of our circus in the form of a tight rope walker (or "type" rope walker as she keeps saying).

I created with top using the Modkid Ava pattern. I modified the bodice to include a corset style feature.

In case you would like to recreate this look, I've got a little tutorial to show you my process. It's a fun little pattern flip weather it's for a costume or not. You'll need the Ava Pattern to begin.

First, cut the bodice pattern piece 1/2" wider at the fold.

Next, mark two parallel lines 5/8" apart. The first line is 1 7/8" from the fold. Repeat for the opposite side of the fold.

It's super hard to see in the above photo, but add 1 1/2" interfacing strips on the wrong side of the bodice where you drew the parallel lines.

Press the bodice to the front right sides together at the line closest to the fold.

 '
Press the bodice to the back wrong sides together at the outside line creating a pleat. Repeat for the opposite side of the fold.

Mark eyelet locations centered in the pleat. The eyelets should be about 1 1/2" apart and 1" from the top and bottom edge. Your spacing may vary depending on the size you are making.

Insert the eyelets at the markings. I used one of my favorite scrapbooking tools, called a Crop-A-Dile.

Finally, baste the folds in place at the top and bottom seams and continue with the remaining pattern instructions for the Ava Top. When your top is complete, thread a shoelace or ribbon through the eyelets. Done!

Keep sharing your Modkid Halloween creations!!
